In our little world

In our little world….

By Ruby and Lacey

Hi, my name is Shizuku and I live in my little world. I am a Malah. Malah’s are tiny little people like me, who are NOT supposed to be seen by humans… You see, my whole tribe got killed because of humans. And I’ll never ever forgive them for it. I am only 14 years old and I love being down here, safe from monstrous humans. I have a pet pig whose name is Waddles. He is a baby piglet and the bestest friend I could ever ask for. He has always been there for me and always will be. It's like he will live forever…. His favourite food is potatoes with a little bit of salt and rosemary. I like pineapple juice even though we don't have much. We have been besties ever since I can remember and Waddles has been my only family. We spend a lot of time together since there isn't much to do, especially alone. I am from Japan but I live here in Fiji. I was only a baby when I moved to Fiji and out of Japan. Fiji is now my home... When I was little I found something shiny on the grassy dirt. I picked it up but I still had no idea what it was. It made a really weird noise that I didn't recall ever hearing in my entire life. My tribe said that they would play me every single sound but that one I had never heard… I brushed off the dirt and rinsed it under some used water. Once it was partly clean I saw little markings on it. I tried to read it but I couldn't make out what was written. M- uhh I can't read the rest. So I rinsed it under some more water. I still couldn't make out what it said. But that’s in the past, at the moment I'm seeking revenge on humans (or wicked beasts) for taking out my family! They have no soul, and they are selfish and cruel! I burst into tears of anger and sadness and ran to my room. Just thinking about the day my tribe and family got wiped out forever… It was a day I'll never forget. Every day I go to bed I think of them kissing me on the forehead and tucking me into bed. But now all I can feel when I go to bed is revenge (and Waddles snuggling up to me.) The day they took my tribe away from me. I was watching it all, I ran to get them but when I went back home, they were all gone, FOREVER. And I’ve never seen them ever again. Although I never saw them being taken away, I know it was humans. There was nobody left, just the items my tribe used to carry. And I was only 8. I had no idea what was happening. I wish I could’ve done something… The mossy, old pipe is all I have left of our old home… The ruins were taken as well as my family and my tribe...

The pipe's message

The morning sun rises, I open my bedroom window. I smell the fresh breeze as the cold wind blows my sleepy face awake. I yawned and Waddles woke up snorting and smelling bad like crazy! I think he saw that I wasn't in bed. “Ok, ok Waddles calm down. I'm awake, I'm awake!” I walked down the old, mossy wooden stairs and got a crumb of bread out of the cupboard, and sat down at the stone table. Suddenly I noticed the pipe's glow. So I picked it up and it was like writing letters onto it. Like MAGIC! Repeating itself. Now I can actually read out what it said! It said: Malah-Everette. WHAT!? HOW!? And WHY IS IT GLOWING LIKE THIS!? Is it some kind of signal? Or a person?!!? Saying that someone named Everette used to own this pipe and was a Malah too!!!!?? But they are all gone!?!? FOREVER! And who or what is Everette!? I thought I was the only Malah left! I put the pipe down and took a deep breath taking in what was happening. but then it vibrated. I didn't even take a deep breath!! I looked at it and it had a message written on it. It said: Whoever you are, please help me. I am a Malah and I am in grave danger. A place... full of humans…; EVERETTE!!? Who is she!? If we're the only Malah’s left. I need to go find her before our species goes extinct!

The only Malahs left…

I grabbed Waddles with his chubby cheeks full of potato. *SNORT!* he snorted in annoyment. I put him into my lime green and brown bag and grabbed the pipe too. I collected some bread and ran outside. I didn’t really get that far though. I am around the size of a human’s finger. But as brave, strong and as bold as a human. But kinder. I walked out of the old, shaggy hut and tied my silky brown hair into a ponytail with a tiny piece of rope. And walked to a river to rest. I ate a bread crumb and drank some warm pineapple juice, and kept on walking. The sun was big and hot, but I wiped my sweat away. "I will do whatever I can do to keep the Malah tribe alive…" I walked forwards towards a thick and humid jungle. I collected some nuts and berries that I found as I walked through the wet and mossy trees. Then I felt the pipe vibrate again as a message glowed in. It said: I am in danger, the humans are attacking and I am lost. I have been trying to find someone like me forever. I have tried so hard. But I am thinking of giving up… I don’t know who you are, but I trust you to bring me home… I can feel your presence nearby. I know you are here. Please come…; Yes! I’m nearby. But she’s lost and I have NO IDEA WHERE IN THE WORLD SHE IS! I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE I AM!!? But I can't give up, I just can’t… It's too important… If we really are the last Malah’s left we have to find each other! The Malah tribe is depending on us… And Malah’s spawn randomly. But not if we are all separate… So we need to find more Malah’s… Somehow. I just don't know how. Yet.

Look! A temple! Made out of wool and wet soaked cloth. What could it be used for? And why is it so big?! Wait, do humans live here?!?!?!?!? I need to run!

human: "yeah, yeah. I found another pig today." "yep" *creak* footsteps creaking loudly down the hallway and a loud harsh voice…

The human boy….

No time to run I need to hide.. So I hid behind a bush waiting very patiently moving very very slowly trying to get away. But then I saw a poor helpless pig on top of a fire. Waddles snared at the humans. “Quiet Waddles!” I said in a whisper. “We don’t know what to do yet.” But then Waddles jumped out and ran towards the temple. “No! Waddles come back!” I yelled. But Waddles didn’t look back, he kept on running. I wonder why he’s so concentrated on this female pig! I ran after him in fear and terror as we walked into the temple of wool and wet cloth. I quietly walked inside hearing the terrifying distant noises. I saw a pin and picked it up. It could be useful, I saw Waddles behind one of the humans. I could hear the humans laughing but Waddles jumped into the middle of the circle and was trying desperately to free that poor pig. The humans suddenly noticed the tiny pig (waddles) in the circle and aimed their arrows. "That pig is so small!" I heard one of them say. I jumped into the circle and grabbed waddles and the poor helpless pig and ran away before any of the humans saw me. I ran into the nearest temple of wet cloth and hid. Then I put down the pigs. But I realised they were family! The female pig was Waddle’s sister! I stood up and then I realised there was a boy staring at me the whole time. I hid under the lamp as if I wasn’t there. “Don’t be afraid of me,” he said. I scrunched up my face as my hair literally blew up. I WAS SEEN BY A HUMAN! I picked up the 2 pigs and ran outside. I felt my heart beat fast. Then the boy walked calmly out of the tent and said to me ‘’please don’t be afraid, I promise I won’t hurt you” I looked at him and sat in a tree for the night with Waddles and his sister beside me. In the morning both of the pigs were snorting like crazy again. I woke up and saw a flower under the tree with a note stuck to it. I read the note and it said Hello, my name is Haku. What’s your name? After I read it I put it back to how it was before. And went to the temple. I dropped the flower and the note inside the tent. As I was about to leave the boy turned around and said “wait, what’s your name?” I turned around and shook my head and ran outside. Later on I decided to stay at the tree because now that a human has seen me, I need to keep an eye on this boy. Because he could tell anyone, this afternoon the boy left something there again. A bread crumb and with a note. The note said: are you hungry? I went back to his tent for the second time and said to him “ Please, if you don’t want to harm me. Stop leaving messages. And please don’t tell anyone about me.” I walked out of the place and sat in the tree as I gathered my things and packed them up in my bag. Then as I was about to leave the big, human boy came to the big tree and said to me with a caring voice“you know, my cousin said he once found little people here. just like you. I didn’t believe him at first. But the moment I saw you, a little person. I swore I would protect you. I swear I won’t tell anyone about me seeing you or your species. I promise!" The next day he came back to the tree and said “why are you here?” “PLEASE, Just leave me alone” My voice sounded like a whisper so he didn't hear all of my strength in my voice. The boy sighed and walked away… But then he looked back and said “ But really I know talking to you was a mistake but why just why are you here?” “I~~I'm here to save my tribe. You know, humans killed my family. I just can't trust you… there is someone of my species in danger. I need to help her." I walked quietly away. I sat in the tree and stopped packing my bags. I stayed at the tree and looked at the temple with wet cloth and wool as the 2 little pigs played together, happily. I sighed a deep hopeless sigh. “How am I supposed to even find Everette…” I said quietly. I looked up at the clear, cold ,starry night sky and went to sleep in a pile of twigs, leaves and old hay that I found in the horse paddocks of the humans.. In the morning I saw that the tree had changed. I was sleeping on a bed and there were carpets and bookshelves all around me. I went to the boy’s temple, and said “ did you furniturise the tree?” The boy nodded. “Don’t you like it?” I looked down at my toes. “Goodbye,” I said quietly. "I need to leave…" The next day I continued packing and walked to the temple of cloth. “You came back!” Said the boy happily but calmly. “I’m just here to say goodbye.” I said as I looked at my knees. "oh, ok.." The boy said sadly. "I will miss you.." he said as he closed the temple's doors with the cloth that was at the front. I finally packed up my things and started walking towards an abandoned city...

Where are you?

It was dark and the grass was much taller than me. Which made it hard to see, at night I saw a dog but only faintly. Wait? Isn’t that Haku’s dog? I looked behind the dog and standing there was the boy. “Please, I want to help you. I never even got to know your name!” He said “My name is Shuzuku.” I said softly. “Can I help you?” He said “With what? you’ve already done enough.” I said “I want to help you find the other little person.” “We’re Malah’s not little people.” I said sharply “but please, let me help you,” I nodded. Haku put his hand lower to the dirt. I stood onto his hand as he lifted me up. I felt the pipe vibrate again. This time it said: I am about to die. There is no use in finding me… Please just save yourself before you go any further. No! I am going to find you Everette." I said sharply in my mind. We walked into a dense forest. There I found a girl with blonde wild hair as small as me. With human hunters around her as she was tied to a tree. She saw me holding the glowing pipe in my hand. The glow got brighter as we went closer to her. She gasped and said “You have the pipe!” She said happily. Please help me! We are the LAST Malah’s left. She gasped in shock, “Wait! You are a human!” Everette mumbled in fear “don't worry he’s my friend” I said calmly. The boy lowered his hand. I walked off and untied Everette. We sat in Haku’s hands as he took us back to the temples with cloth.

Goodbyes

“I can take you both home’” Haku said I nodded. We walked for a while until we arrived. "Well I guess this is goodbye…" Haku said with joyful tears running down his cheek. I touched his finger and said “I’ll never forget you. You have been so good to me.” I said as I cried. As me and Everette walked inside my little underground hut Everette said something “You deserve this pipe more than I do. You are truly much more worthy.” She handed me the pipe. As I heard Haku say “ I’ll never forget you too, Shuzuku. I promise, forever you will be a part of me.” “I’ll miss you too, I will” I said softly… I headed back to my room and out of the corner of my eye I saw Haku leaving. I ran up to my room and went to bed with Waddles and his sister sleeping next to me cuddling up. Now I have definitely made my family proud….

The end…
